LA COLONIA, Medical Dental MISSION, HONDURAS

In 2024, we are launching a new pilot project in Honduras, the most mountainous country in Central America, where we’ve been asked to help small native communities in La Colonia with medical care. La Colonia rests nearest the city of Trujillo, just below the mountains of Capiro National Park, and just inland from the well-known Bay Islands of Roatan, Utila and Guyana frequented by diving and snorkeling enthusiasts from around the world. The Garifuna people in the area have been struggling to defend their ancestral land rights and culture, and have little access and economy to attain health care. As with our other projects, your participation will enable us to run clinics with primary care, pediatric screenings, basic gynecology, primitive cervical exams, and basic dentistry. We’ll also be building a new relationship with and learning about three communities interested in improving their lives.

A free days is available to do as you like on the trip, enjoying the white-sand beach and swimming and snorkeling in clear, warm waters, or taking in some of the rich history of Trujillo, where Christopher Columbus first landed in Central America in 1502. You can take optional trips to hike in Capiro National Park, or visit the historical buildings of the Spanish colonies that settled here. If you have never been, The Bay Islands are a must experience destination and an easy side trip we can help you arrange.

To participate on this trip, you must raise, or pay on your own, a minimum donation.  As a convenience to you, we will provide you with materials for raising these funds on a crowd-funding website.  The donation covers land travel costs and shared lodging once you arrive in La Ceiba, Honduras. It also covers most all meals and group medical supplies. It does not cover overseas flights to Honduras, some meals in town, side trips or other miscellaneous expenses.
