Cordillera BLANCA Medical Dental MISSION, Peru

In 2024, we are launching a new pilot project one mountain range north of our original project in the remote Cordillera Huayhuash. The Cordillera Blanca (or white mountain range) is well known for its stunning, high-altitude, glaciated peaks and accessible azure lakes in Huascaran National Park, and is frequented by outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. However, like in most of Peru, native people in the area struggle with the effects of ethnic/racial discrimination and poverty, and have little access to quality health care. Your participation will enable us to run clinics with primary care, pediatric screenings, basic gynecology, primitive cervical exams, and basic dentistry, contribute medicines and supplies, and build a relationship with three mountain communities interested in improving their standard of public health.

One or two free days are available to do as you like on the trip, either volunteering in a local hospital or enjoying some of the most beautiful mountain scenery and intriguing human history one can imagine. You can take optional trips to hike, ride horses, mountain bike or kayak in Huascaran National Park, or visit ruins of a pre-Incan culture thriving in 200 BC. If you have never been, Machu Picchu and Cuzco are also an easy side trip away.

To participate on this trip, you must raise, or pay on your own, a minimum donation.  As a convenience to you, we will provide you with materials for raising these funds on a crowd-funding website.  Outside of any side-trips you optionally may take, the donation covers land travel costs and shared lodging once you arrive in Huaraz, Peru. It also covers most all meals and group medical supplies. It does not cover overseas flights to Peru, some meals in town, or other miscellaneous expenses.
