Cordillera Huayhuash Medical Dental Mission, Peru 2010

June 12-25, 2010
Trip Cost: $2295
Deposit: $500
Balance Due In Full: March 12, 2010

This project offers a unique way to visit this incredible destination, giving back to communities that most only pass through.

Indigenous villages in this area suffer from the effects of ethnic/racial discrimination and poverty, battling a system with poor educational and vocational opportunities and sustaining poor access to health care. Your participation will enable us to run medical/dental/optical clinics, contribute medicines and supplies in these remote mountain communities.

Along the trek, we will be accomodating several clinics to diagnose and treat illnesses. We are seeking doctors, dentists, optometrists, nurses and other medical professionals to help. Although diagnoses and treatments will only be provided by qualified professionals, a medical background is not required to participate. Non-medical and/or student support is greatly needed and encouraged.

This is our most demanding trip involving a supported trek through the entire Huayhuash circuit, easily one of the most beautiful treks in the world. After acclimatizing in a nearby town, we will spend most of our time hiking at elevations over 14,000 feet, spending our nights in scenic camps and remote villages.

You must be qualified for this trip physically, being prepared for varying mountain weather conditions, strenuous passes, and full time camping. It is required that you have experience over 14,000 feet and required that you have proper immunizations for the Peruvian Andes taken care of in advance.

To participate on this trip, you will be required to raise $2295. This covers most land travel costs and shared lodging once you arrive in Huaraz, Peru. It also covers all meals, transport, horse and burro support, camping costs and fees associated with the Huayhuash circuit. It does not cover overseas flights to Peru, meals in town, tips to your guides, or other miscellaneous expenses.
